2010 NATIONAL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

The first day of the Open National Championship started with very frigid conditions in the teens only warming into the low 40's. We were able to complete the first 7 braces today.

Mists Sun Storm
Mist's Sun Storm on an unproductive, he had a nice back and applied him self well on the course but suffered happy feet on another back.
Waybetter jade
Last year's defending Champion was in the first brace with Storm. (Her handler Collin suffered a broken back over the summer and with sheer determination was up and walking far sooner then expected and was able to handle Jade.) She had one unproductive, followed by three stylish finds buried in the cover before temptation got the better of her ending her bid to repeat her title.
Second Brace

The Grand Heritage Motion was not seen after breakaway and tracker was called for.

Notorious Mr. Big, had one find was up before the hour for not pleasing his handler

The third brace was Phillips Powder Twist and Urban Brillance. Twist was up before his hour due to a missed stop to flush. Brillance scored two nice finds in his hour and put down nice race.

The 4th brace broke away after lunch. Merritt's Pearl (Ecker) put down a very eye appealing race with 5 staunch points and one unproductive. (Due to Terry Merritt's hip problems last years runner up was guided by Bob Ecker.)

Lumber River Gold (Culbreth) suffered an indescrection ending her bid for the title before the hour was complete.

Urban's Wicked Tina was up before her hour for not pleasing her handler.

In the fifth brace was Indian Creek Mickey who scored 1 unproductive with 4 finds was not running a championship race was also up before the hour.

Brace 6
Rich announcing Porter Meadow Elroy(Bush) and Daniels Creek John(Daniels)Porter Meadow Elroy was not seen after breakaway and tracker was called for.

John on point with Buck Daniels. He had a stylish find and then moments later suffered the indescretion ending his bid.
Mists Fiber McGee
Mist's Fiber McGee first find required two relocations to pin the birds with all in order. She had another find with all in order. Her third find was a divided find requiring both dogs to be relocated. She failed to stop when a bird lifted.
Foxfire
Foxfire had three finds before the divided find. She located a bird and reestablished point just before her bracemates error. She went on to have one more find before her hour was completed.
